This second-level intensive Chinese course in Taipei filled gaps in my vocabulary and grammar knowledge, but my grades clearly show my strength lies in conversation. Practicing Chinese 3 hours a day plus homework helped me quickly gain more confidence and fluency in oral and written communication.
I prepared this July 2018 edition of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan monthly newsletter using Mail Chimp, demonstrating some communication and graphic design skills I learned while volunteering here. This newsletter edition presents a few styles of banners I learned to make using Canva and illustrates how they were used to connect and communicate with our subscribers.
This Letter of Reference from Carrie Kellenberger, the Chairwoman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan from 2016-2018, details and verifies my contribution to the Chamber, speaking to my excellent communication skills and work ethic. Her support means the world to me, as I respect her as a businesswoman.
This Letter of Reference from Brook Hall, owner/director of The LAB Space and Ripple Productions and current Head of Department of Vienna’s English Theatre Academy in Austria, discusses my strength as a team member and my ability to learn. I am humbled by Brook’s words of praise and support as I hold him in high esteem as a director and leadership mentor.
This Letter of Reference is from Sapphira Shen, assistant manager at Beth’s Academy, who is intimately familiar with my teaching style and abilities, having observed me teach on camera for the last two years, an integral member of our team. Her letter relates my effectiveness as a leader to my students and how my curiosity constantly compels me to improve.
I compiled this weekly homework booklet aligned to Open Court Reading Unit 8 Lesson 2 using worksheets from Glyph Girls, Lucky Little Learners, and our core curriculum for my grade one ESL students to use April 17-24, 2023. The booklet demonstrates how I lead my students to stay organized, communicate with parents, and target daily phonics practice, which I use both as a resource during my lessons and for students to use at home.
I completed this 40-hour personal styling course online over six months in 2017. It taught me what information to gather about my clients, how to collect it, and how to make it accessible and easily understood. The course taught me how to use online tools to research and organize images from Pinterest, Polyvore, and other websites, and then organize those images in original mini mood board/style references for my clients.
During Lara’s style consultation at her home on December 5, 2017, I personalized the pages of her Style File book to summarize what I learned about her unique style. Lara’s Style File’s scanned pages were recreated from my notes and previous pictures taken, as Lara kept her original hard copy, and it shows how I organized Lara’s relevant style information to make it easy to understand and use as a style resource.
My most recent report card comments for my current class of 20 ESL students, prepared for Beth’s Academy in January 2023. These report cards link with Evidence 5.3 and are a product of how I organized the information I gathered: my observations, assessments, and reflection on each student’s learning, directed at the parents, ready to print.
This 5-minute video from October 2011 in Taipei shows the troupe of True Spin dancers wearing the commissioned Lycra LED costumes I created in 2008. The video links with Evidence 5.1 and demonstrates my ability to solve technical clothing problems to fit various body sizes of both males and females.
I created this diagram of my stylist tools and list of solutions in April 2023 to show how my kit helped me solve unexpected styling problems on set or location before having my daughter in mid-2019. This kit took years to refine and combines what I learned from experiential learning and the personal styling courses I took online at AOPI and SOS.
I was asked to contribute this 1600-word article by Editor-in-Chief Sue Babcock for Centered Magazine, a free, widely distributed magazine in Taiwan with a sizeable foreign readership. Sharing this article with personal clients was a problem-solving tactic to redirect clothing alteration tasks in favor of fashion design commissions, but it has also received positive feedback from the wider expat community.
This Google Sheet finalized in January 2023 shows how I calculated the final grades for my grade one ESL class in Taipei, linked to Evidence 3.3. The file shows how I used a range of numeracy and computer skills at work as an ESL teacher and what calculations I used to evaluate students’ performance in English.
I maintained this spreadsheet weekly during 2017 to record and organize wardrobe and related expenses in New Taiwan Dollars (NTD) for my client, Lara Veronin, while in Taiwan, and Thai Baht while on an August purchase trip abroad to Bangkok, Thailand. The Sheets file shows how I used my numeracy and computer skills to calculate and manage the budget as a stylist accurately.
I manually drafted this flat legging pattern for five male dancers of the True Spin dancing troupe in Taipei in 2008, which links with Evidence 4.1. This master grading pattern shows how I used my numeracy skills for pattern drafting, with measurement calculations in inches visible on the paper in pencil.
Lara’s “Beast Dress” from her 2018 album is one of my favorite items I have ever created because it showcases my signature design skills, critical thinking in design, and creativity at a professional level. The album cover has Lara’s handwritten note identifying working together on her feature film, “Tomorrow’s Star,” in Taipei as an “AMAZING learning experience,” which I wholeheartedly agree with.
Completing this 6-hour online course in September 2023 furthered my knowledge about the Science of Reading and gave me the skills and information needed to critically evaluate different teaching methods and curriculum for instructing my grade one ESL students' foundational reading skills. The certificate shows my commitment to continued professional development in teaching.
This letter from my manager at my current position as an ESL teacher in Taipei highlights my skills as a teacher, including critical thinking. As the owner’s son, it means a lot to gain Albert’s positive recommendation and respect because he holds high performance standards for staff and faculty.
This finish line photo from October 2018 means a lot because it reveals my early pregnancy and triumph over morning sickness to complete my longest distance ever of 21 kilometers at the Spartan Beast race in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. My official race results verify that I not only finished the race but was 5th of 42 in my age group, one of my proudest accomplishments.
This letter from Marcus Aurelius, Editor-in-Chief of Lifted Asia, an online hip-hop magazine, speaks to the growth he witnessed firsthand as a dear friend of 20 years while I navigated different life situations in Taiwan. Marcus is well-known in our community; I value his honesty as he reflects on my maturity and thirst for learning.
The official grades of my fashion design diploma verify the 22 courses I studied at this private institution and reveal my most significant foundational learning areas like pattern making and garment construction (sewing). The 50% grade I received for my portfolio was due to submitting it two weeks late, a core life lesson that cost me a full scholarship but instilled the principle of always being early.
“Watch Out” is my favorite song from Taiwanese singer Lara Veronin’s full-length feature film, “Tomorrow’s Star,” and the music video posted in September 2018 displays a wide variety of costumes from different scenes in the movie that required my advanced skills as a designer and stylist, primarily by communicating Chinese. Because the film was released in theatres and not online, this was one of the few official videos available to share publicly, and I am proud of my contribution to the project.
This certificate verifies my completion of this 8-hour online course that taught me many things about the business of personal styling. The certificate fails to convey the completion of the extra mentorship “Mastery” program with founder Lauren Messiah, who gave me tailored feedback for six weeks to help me develop my styling business.
This website is my styling, costume, and fashion design portfolio website that I created in 2017 and kept regularly updated until mid-2019. It advertises my services and evidence of my best work, like the movie trailer for “Tomorrow’s Star,” and shows my web design capability using Square Space.
