Attention: Susan Forseille, PLAR Director, and PLAR Assessors
Thank you for the opportunity to present my adult learning in this portfolio. I entered PLAR to help make sense of my past and use my experiences as stepping stones to my future. I have experienced rich learning throughout my adult life. The PLAR process can help me achieve my goal of becoming a university graduate and ultimately achieve my dream of completing my Masters in School Psychology. The more educated I can become, the better I will be at making a difference in the lives of those around me, especially my daughter. The Open Learning Program gives me the flexibility and opportunity to study part-time while balancing the responsibilities of parenthood and teaching part-time. Still, I am motivated and determined to continue learning and absorbing as much as possible while on this educational journey.
I have focused on the areas of Fashion Design, Costume Design, Personal Styling, Teaching ESL, and Intercultural Relations in my portfolio, which I have identified in my Categories of Learning. I have expanded on these areas in the eight competencies in my Discussion of Learning. I have lived a split life for my 20 years in Taiwan; I have been teaching English half the time and the other half solving clothing problems in different specialized roles. Whereas much of my learning has been on-the-job training, I have also continually taken courses to enrich my knowledge and apply what I learned in professional contexts. Additionally, I highlighted my learning as a volunteer connecting cultures and as a mother.
So far, the most valuable experience of this process has been the opportunity to analyze and reflect on my past learning and decide how I wanted to retell my story, which has been a cathartic process. Preparing this portfolio has helped me process my experiences and renewed my confidence, which I am deeply grateful for. Thank you so much for investing time and energy into reviewing my portfolio. I'm excited to interview with you to expand upon my learning in greater detail and answer any questions you may have.
I am requesting 30 PLAR APST credits (15 of which can be Upper-Level) toward my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree.
With gratitude,
Jenifer Lynn Pearce T00661984
